The Centre Assistant will support the Greyfriars Charteris Centre – a Centre for Community – by being a welcoming presence to visitors, supporting activities and undertaking various tasks. They will be responsible for room preparation and generally supporting the wider work of the centre.
Hours: 25 per week
Salary: £9.50 per hour
Contract term: 40 weeks
Duties will include:
Room set up - Prepare spaces for groups coming in depending on the groups specific requirements and clear up as necessary.
Stock Management - Monitor levels of consumables and informing the centre manager when supplies are low.
Assist users - Some Centre Users may need directing to specific areas in the centre or help preparing for the session.
Caretaking - Opening up and locking up of rooms/building, assist with facilities management issues such as recycling storage and collection streams, general waste management and assisting with the general care of the premises.
Marketing - Marketing and promoting the Centre, particularly on social media, monitoring the Centre's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles, posting updates as appropriate and sharing relevant other news from key partners and other organisations.
Cleaning - To undertake Cleaning of the Centre. Particularly, but not limited to, the Kitchen and Toilet Facilities, care and use of cleaning equipment.
Group Management - Shadowing and acting as an assistant to the duty managers whilst they look after our centre users.
There may be additions and variations to these tasks depending on the successful candidate and Centre activities. Any changes will be discussed fully beforehand. Training will be provided according to need.
Desire to support the community in all its variety;
Good Customer Service skills;
Excellent Cleaning skills/experience
Social Media experience and awareness;
Able to use a computer;
Ability to undertake manual handling tasks;
The Greyfriars Charteris Centre is a "Centre for Community" based on the Pleasance in Edinburgh. It has three large halls, two meeting rooms, and numerous offices to be used by local individuals, community groups and businesses. It has a wide range of regular tenants who together form the Charteris Community for mutual support and has a focus on Wellbeing and Enterprise. Currently undergoing an extensive renovation programme to make the centre fully accessible, up to date and have a more welcoming structure.
