Position available on the Board of Trustees - if interested, here's how to apply for it.

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

Title of Post: Trustee of Greyfriars Charteris Centre SCIO

Date: September 2022

Main Purpose of post:

To play a full part in the governance of the charity, bringing particular expertise in marketing and communications

Who are we?

Greyfriars Charteris Centre is a Centre for Community based in its newly refurbished home in the heart of the southside of the city at 138/140 The Pleasance. We aim to be a vital hub for our diverse local community, whilst engaging with new partners and attracting new users. We have created an inspirational environment to support communities of all faiths and none under our overarching themes of well-being and social enterprise. We serve community groups with multiple, and sometimes complex, needs and interests – from choirs for people with dementia to social enterprise groups and counselling services. Led by Greyfriars Kirk our principal partners include University of

Edinburgh and Edinburgh Social Enterprise.

The role:

We seek an individual who has marketing and communications experience which will be vital in delivering our strategic plan of promoting a diverse community space in an historic part of Edinburgh. As the refurbishment of the Centre is complete it is an exciting time to join the existing team of trustees and contribute in a meaningful way to the strategic vision for the Centre. The GCC board meets 6-8 times a year, typically for a two-hour meeting held at the Centre in Edinburgh towards the end of the working day. Board papers are distributed in advance. In addition, trustees are invited to occasional events at the Centre, to engage with our partners and user groups. Historically the trustees have worked closely with the small staff team so there would be an opportunity to work collaboratively on specific marketing and or communication projects.

About you:

The charity welcomes applicants that reflect the diversity of the community we serve. We value the diversity of opinion, thought and experience that a new board member can bring. The appointment may appeal to an experienced person wishing to volunteer their expertise for the benefit of the community, and from individuals who share our values. Our board members may or may not be members of a church, but all are active in promoting the ethos of the Centre which is inspired by Christian outreach.

How to apply:

For an initial, exploratory conversation please contact

our chair Richard Frazer on 07715 069041 (minister@greyfriarskirk.com) or
